Amanda Barrie

Born Shirley Broadbent, Amanda Barrie has been on the stage since she was three, when she performed at the theatre her grandfather ran. She arrived in London at the age of thirteen where she became a chorus girl at the famous Winston Club. She made her West End lead debut in Public Mischief with George Cole. This was followed by one of her most memorable roles, the eponymous heroine of Carry On Cleo. Throughout the sixties and seventies Amanda worked in theatre, television and film before making her first appearance as Alma Sedgewick on Coronation Street in 1981. When she passed away in 2001, Alma was one of the shows best-loved characters. Since leaving, Amanda has returned to theatre and is currently starring in pantomime.
