'...any keen gardener would love this excellent book.' Robin Lane Fox, Financial Times

'Carol Klein is known for her no-nonsense approach and inspires us to garden.'
Gardens Illustrated

In this invaluable book acclaimed plantswoman and bestselling author Carol Klein explains how to get the most from your garden by taking inspiration from what works in the wild - be it in a meadow, woodland, hedgerow, seaside or exposed setting. Carol encourages you to identify the conditions in your outdoor space - for example, the shady corner of an urban garden mimics the conditions of woodland or a windswept roof terrace will replicate an exposed hillside - and to pick the plants that flourish in these conditions.

In each of the six chapters there are case study gardens that Carol admires for the way their owners have worked with the natural habitat to glorious effect and each chapter ends with a directory of about 30 of Carol's favourite plants for that habitat. As ever, Carol's text is wise, informative and beautifully written while photography by award-winning Jonathan Buckley ensures that the book is also a visual treat.

Carol Klein

Best known as co-presenter of BBC Gardeners' World, Carol Klein is an internationally renowned gardener. Mancunian Carol moved to Devon with her husband in the late 1970s to have a family and start a garden. One of their aims was to grow their own fruit and veg.
Carol's love for plants led her to propagate, and eventually, sell them. From humble beginnings at Barnstaple Pannier Market, her nursery Glebe Cottage Plants went on to exhibit at major RHS flower shows including The Chelsea Flower Show where she won many awards including six Chelsea Golds. Her exhibits were lauded for their ground-breaking originality.

She has presented numerous innovative and influential TV gardening series, including Grow Your Own Veg, Life in a Cottage Garden, Plant Odysseys and Great British Gardens, winning four Garden Media Guild 'Broadcast of the Year' awards. In 2018 the RHS awarded her their highest honour The Victoria Medal of Honour. In 2019 she was awarded The Lifetime Achievement Award by the GMG. She has written for most of the national newspapers and gardening magazines including Garden News and Gardeners' World Magazine. Her many books include RHS Grow Your Own Veg which became the best-selling gardening book for two consecutive years, selling more than 150,000 copies as tracked by Nielsen TCM.
