Erin Van Rheenen

When Erin Van Rheenan was three years old, her parents moved the family from their native Oregon to a two-year Peace Corps stint in Nigeria. Since then Erin has been fortunate to live outside of the US for extended periods of time in Ireland, Ecuador, Mexico, and Guatemala, among other places. She answered Costa Rica's call in 2000; the first edition of Living Abroad in Costa Rica came out in 2004.

Erin earned a BA in Latin American Literature from the University of California at Santa Cruz, a Masters in Fiction Writing and English Literature from the City University of New York, and a certificate of proficiency in Spanish from the Catholic University in Quito, Ecuador.

She has published essays and stories and articles in venues ranging from Fiction Magazine to the Los Angeles Times. Her writing has won several awards, and she was honored with inclusion in the Best Women's Travel Writing.
