Sarai has lived and breathed nightmares since she was six years old.
She believed she knew every horror, and was beyond surprise.
She was wrong.

In the wake of tragedy, neither Lazlo nor Sarai are who they were before. One a god, the other a ghost, they struggle to grasp the new boundaries of their selves as dark-minded Minya holds them hostage, intent on vengeance against Weep.

Lazlo faces an unthinkable choice - save the woman he loves, or everyone else? - while Sarai feels more helpless than ever. But is she? Sometimes, only the direst need can teach us our own depths, and Sarai, the muse of nightmares, has not yet discovered what she's capable of.

As humans and godspawn reel in the aftermath of the citadel's near fall, a new foe shatters their fragile hopes, and the mysteries of the Mesarthim are resurrected: Where did the gods come from, and why? What was done with the thousands of children born in the citadel nursery? And most important of all, as forgotten doors are opened and new worlds revealed: must heroes always slay monsters, or is it possible to save them instead?

Love and hate, revenge and redemption, destruction and salvation all clash in this gorgeous sequel to the New York Times bestseller, Strange the Dreamer.

'I was afraid to read too quickly because I didn't want it to be over . . . Laini has done something so special with this duology . . . It will leave you changed forever' Samantha Shannon

'Coming off a boatload of recognition for that series-starter, the author is promising an even richer read . . . Taylor asks big questions about life and death in the new book, as humans and godspawn reel in the aftermath of the Citadel's near-fall.' Entertainment Weekly

Praise for Muse of Nightmares: the magical sequel to Strange the Dreamer

  • [Readers] will dive into Taylor's gorgeous prose and brilliant imagery and relish this story about dreams, love, monsters, gods, ghosts, war, and alchemy. Told from alternating points of view, this is complex but satisfying, a story about cultures meeting and clashing - VOYA

  • [Taylor]'s always been a wordsmith, and this book is no exception, but the attention she pays to the people who aren't the heroes, the care given to ordinary life and its immense importance, elevates this from an entertaining epic to a deeply necessary, sometimes devastatingly so, work of art - Booklist

  • Gorgeously written in language simultaneously dark, lush, and enchanting, - Publisher's Weekly

  • As always, Taylor is a master of sweeping fantasy as well as unforgettable characters that will break your heart. - Shondaland

  • As tragedy and triumph and empathy for both humans and godspawn are held in constant tension, the plotting is exquisite, with turns readers will never see coming and that yet make perfect sense in retrospect. - Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books

  • Laini Taylor writes like a musician plays, with precision and passion and harmony, each note perfectly placed, leaving her audience overwhelmed and transported . . . MUSE OF NIGHTMARES is a philosophical fantasy adventure, an epic love story, a daring quest that demands to be read and reread and deserves to be remembered forever.

  • I was afraid to read too quickly because I didn't want it to be over . . . Laini has done something so special with this duology . . . It will leave you changed forever

  • Lovers of intricate worldbuilding and feverish romance will find this enthralling - Kirkus

Hi! I write fantasy books. My latest is STRANGE THE DREAMER, about a young librarian, a mythic lost city, and the half-human children of murdered gods. Check it out :-) Before that I wrote the DAUGHTER OF SMOKE & BONE trilogy, which has been translated into 32 languages. It's about a blue-haired art student raised by monsters, a broken angel, and a war that has raged for 1000 years in another world. I also wrote LIPS TOUCH: THREE TIMES, which was a National Book Award finalist, and the DREAMDARK books. As well as various short stories and novellas.

Thanks for reading!!
