Born and educated in Devon, Rachel Trethewey went on to read History at St Edmund Hall, Oxford University, where she won the Philip Geddes Prize for student journalism. During her subsequent journalistic career she wrote for the Daily Express and the Daily Mail, before switching to politics. In the 1997 General Election, she stood as the Liberal Democratic parliamentary candidate for East Devon, after which she became Education Correspondent on Westcountry Television. Now a full-time writer, she is married and lives in Devon.
