Our people are our most important asset, and we are focused on ensuring we have the policies in place that best support them.

Recent updates to Hachette employee policies include the introduction of:

  • shared parental leave;
  • flexible working for all staff, including geographical location (pending role);
  • domestic violence leave;
  • two paid community days each year.

Shared Parental Leave and Partner Pay:

Shared Parental Leave enables women to return to work earlier and her partner to take over childcare responsibilities, removing barriers to career progression.

Hachette Australia offers full salary for the first 10 weeks, or first 12 weeks for employees with five or more years of service. Hachette will top up partners leave on the same terms as primary carers leave. This leave can be taken at any point in the first year of the child’s life.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy:

The purpose of this policy is for Hachette Australia to establish, promote and maintain the mental health and wellbeing of all staff by providing a safe and supportive work environment, and encouraging staff members to take responsibility for their own mental health and wellbeing. Hachette Australia believes that the mental health and wellbeing of our staff is key to organisational success and sustainability.

As part of this policy, The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a confidential counselling service offered to help all employees deal with personal or work-related issues in a positive way. This EAP involves short-term counselling free of charge, to assist in nurturing emotional wellbeing.

Salary Banding:

To continue building our open and progressive culture, we are transparent and fair about how pay decisions are made and show how pay might progress as people develop their careers at Hachette Australia. In January 2023, we shared our salary bands with our team, well ahead of the implementation of much-welcome changes to Federal IR Laws, and this will be updated and shared annually. We believe that increased salary transparency can reduce the gender pay gap, support career growth and progression and more generally improve workplace diversity.
