Stephen Brumwell worked as a newspaper reporter before gaining a Ph.D. in History from the University of Leeds. He is an expert on the British Army in eighteenth-century America and lectures in Britain and the USA. His doctoral thesis formed the basis of his first book, Redcoats (Cambridge University Press 2002) which won him terrific reviews. Married with a daughter, he lives in Amsterdam, where he is currently working on a biography of General Wolfe.
