Woody Guthrie

Woody Guthrie (1912-1967) wrote more than three thousand folk songs, ballads and children's songs. His homespun humour and earthy, activist songwriting set the stage for the folk music explosion of the 1960s and profoundly influenced many popular recording artists, particularly Bob Dylan, John Mellencamp and Bruce Springsteen. This Land is Your Land, his most famous song, has been performed in various versions by a wide variety of artists including Neil Young, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings and even Lady Gaga. His musical legacy endures as countless musicians, activists, teachers and families continue to discover and sing his songs. The Woody Guthrie Center opened in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2013.
