Set in a Lyon's Corner House in London, this is the second novel in the series set against the backdrop of World War II which began with Corner House Girls
But despite putting on a cheerful face for the customers, the war is taking its toll on all the waitresses: for Maggie, married just a few hours, and then parted from her husband; for Jo and Phyl, anxiously waiting for news from their fiancis; for Etty, and the constant jibes she faces about her background; and even for Irene, who begins a new friendship which is not all it appears to be . . .
Lilian Harry grew up in Gosport, on the shores of Portsmouth Harbour, and now lives on the edge of Dartmoor with two miniature schnauzers who allow her just enough room on the sofa. She is a keen bellringer and walker, and enjoys taking part in village life. Her daughter and two grandchildren live nearby.
