Hachette Australia is delighted to congratulate our authors listed in the CBCA Notables list for 2017:

CBCA PICTURE BOOK OF THE YEAR

CBCA BOOK OF THE YEAR: EARLY CHILDHOOD

WRITING FOR YOUNG ADULTS

In 1946 the Children’s Book Council of Australia established the annual CBCA Book of the Year Awards to promote children's books of high literary and artistic quality. These awards affirm the quality of some of Australia’s most creative people, and provide a boost to their capacity to devote time to their craft.

The 2017 shortlist will be announced Tuesday 28 March. We wish Maxine, Van, Libby, Phil, Charlotte, Tom and Zana the very best of luck!

  • The Bone Sparrow - Zana Fraillon

Subhi's imagination is as big as the ocean and wide as the sky, but his world is much smaller: he's spent his whole life in an immigration detention centre. THE BONE SPARROW is a powerful, heartbreaking, sometimes funny and ultimately uplifting hymn to freedom and love.

  • The 12th Dog - Charlotte Calder and Tom Jellet

Can a dog play cricket? You bet! A raucous celebration of backyard cricket - and the family dog.

  • A Soldier, A Dog and A Boy - Libby Hathorn and Phil Lesnie

A moving story, told completely in dialogue, about a young Australian soldier in the battle of the Somme. With stunning illustrations from Phil Lesnie, this is a deeply moving celebration of friendship in times of war.

  • The Patchwork Bike - Maxine Beneba Clarke and Van T Rudd

What's the best fun in the whole village? Riding the patchwork bike we made! A joyous picture book for children by award-winning author Maxine Beneba Clarke.
