Q&A with Penny Sunday

Friday 29 May 2026

We chat to Penny about what readers can take away from Kill to Love, why she loves the book community, some of her fave romances and why she hates on Geminis....

What can readers expect from Kill to Love?

A very nice dark haired man with an eight pack who will slaughter his way through a death battle to bring you face masks and oranges. It's chaotic, it's sexy, it's unhinged and good luck trying to get through chapter 33.

What do you love the most about the Australian book community?

The endless support between Australian authors and readers. Through Kill to Love I've met so many Australian creators and authors and they have all been incredibly uplifting. I also really love how everyone is always eager for a conversation about books, whether it be recommending a book or sharing a book boyfriend. I'm one of a thousand sister wives to many fictional men.

Why all the hate on Geminis in particular? Which Gemini hurt you?!

My literary agent is a Gemini. She also just so happens to be the President of Geminis - I think they vote on it annually, I'm not sure as I'm an Aquarius and we do things differently. I asked her permission beforehand if I could put offensive jokes about Geminis in Kill to Love and she allowed it.

Give us your ultimate Top 3:

  • Romance books - Alone with you in the Ether by Olivie Blake, Butcher and the Blackbird by Brynne Weaver. Madeline Miller's Persephone (this book hasn't been written yet but it's definitely in my top three)
  • Rom-coms (As in TV?) I don't often watch TV however if I do it will be to watch a K-drama! They are masters in tension and yearning.
  • Songs Cute Girl by Diggy Graves inspired Kill to Love. You are the Moon by the Hush Sound for when I'm thinking about sexy vampires. Friday by Rebbeca Black when it's friday.
