Happy Sydney Mardi Gras!

We're celebrating one of the largest LGBTQIA+ festivals in the world, Sydney Mardi Gras, from 16 Feb – 3 Mar 2024. Celebrate this year with our recent Pride book picks.

Hear from David Shelley, Hachette Book Group CEO

‘As a gay man, it’s a life goal of mine to attend Sydney Mardi Gras. Events like this are, I feel, so key in terms of the LGBTQIA+ community. Although it can sometimes feel like we’ve reached a point of equality and acceptance – and things have improved a lot in the 28 years since I first came out – there’s still a really, really long way to go until we get where we need to be.

I think it’s also why books are so vital. It’s been heartening beyond measure to see the impact Heartstopper has had on queer people of all generations, and I’m very proud that at Hachette our lists have a wealth of other brilliant books by and for LGBTQIA+ people of all ages and all stages of life.

Books truly can make a difference to lives and outcomes and – to reference our mission at Hachette - can help queer people discover exciting new worlds of opportunity and possibility. I hope Mardi Gras is amazing, and that you enjoy some of the incredible books we publish.’

  • Heartstopper Volume 5 - Alice Oseman

The bestselling LGBTQ+ graphic novel about life, love, and everything that happens in between: this is the fifth volume of the beloved HEARTSTOPPER series.

  • An Education in Malice - S.T. Gibson

A sapphic dark academia tale of blood, secrets and insatiable hungers from bestselling author S.T. Gibson, author of the cult hit A Dowry of Blood.

  • The Night Alphabet - Joelle Taylor

'The tattoo was a reclamation, a flag we mounted in the centre of our own landscape.' Set across geographies and timespans, The Night Alphabet is a dazzlingly bold and original work, a deep investigation into human nature and violence against women.

  • Til Death Do Us Bard - Rose Black

Legends & Lattes meets Kings of the Wyld in this queer cosy fantasy, in which a grumpy ex-adventurer must come out of retirement to save the kingdom... after he saves his sunshiny bard husband.

  • This Love - Lotte Jeffs

Spanning ten years of extraordinary friendship, This Love is a vivid and epic tale of finding your soulmates, building an unconventional family, and the limitless, ever-changing forms love can take.

  • The Principle of Moments - Esmie Jikiemi-Pearson

A love letter to Black readers of science-fantasy, The Principle of Moments is a symphonic, centuries-spanning adventure - unmissable for fans of the spacefaring found family of Becky Chambers, the alternate London of V. E. Schwab, and the virtuosic climate-craft of N. K. Jemisin.

  • Shadow Baron - Davinia Evans

The thrilling sequel to Davinia Evans's wickedly entertaining debut fantasy follows our favourite irreverent alchemists, high society ladies, and swashbuckling street gangs as they wrestle with the nature of reality itself.
