Ahoy Reader!

Are you heading out to open water on a cruise?  Take the opportunity to spend some quality health benefiting time with a good book.

I quite like to take a range of books on any holiday, but especially a cruise one, as sometimes I am in the mood to learn, be frivolous and lose myself in a brilliant page turning thriller or take the time to do some leisurely personal reflection.

Another great thing about a cruise trip is you don’t have to worry about the weight of taking so many books in your luggage (well, that is, unless you have to fly to board your cruise). I’d recommend you don’t take anything too heavy even so as you’re likely to give yourself a black eye as the book drops on your face as you doze off while lying out on a lounger on the open deck.

Here is a short selection to suit those like me that want to take time to learn, be immersed, be entertained and sometimes just be!

  • Secrets Between Friends - Fiona Palmer

Lots of emotions wrapped up in this one, good and bad! Three friends arrange to go on a cruise as a ten year reunion of sorts. They are still very much in each other’s lives but each has a secret that comes out.

  • Codename Villanelle - Luke Jennings

A cracking (and not too long or heavy) page turner. As the blurb states very accurately its Jason Bourne meets THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO in an outrageously entertaining thriller.

  • The Girl Before - J.P Delaney

A reviewer for The Australian Women's Weekly sums this book so well I have borrowed it for this blog 'J.P. Delaney (whoever she or he actually is) gives us not just three extraordinary human characters - all of them, in their way, monsters of manipulation - but a house which becomes the book's fourth character. An uncomfortable place to live in every sense.' - Australian Women's Weekly

  • The Inaugural Meeting of the Fairvale Ladies Bookclub - Sophie Green

The setting of this brilliant book couldn't be further away from the landscape to be enjoyed on a cruise. Sophie has written a wonderful story with most lovely characters and their outback lives in the 1970s, its sure to delight.

  • Pause - Danielle Marchant

When you’re out on open water it can bring about a yearning to reflect on and delve into your inner thoughts and desires. This is the perfect book to help guide you on that journey!

I love to read a wide range of books which helps as I work in the marketing department at Hachette Australia and work with a wide range of books each week. My favourite book escape is to curl up with a new Cathy Kelly. I feel like I am being transported back home through the pages. [yep I’m from Ireland originally].
