I write at an adjustable desk (meaning it adjusts from sitting to standing) in my basement office. It used to be my husband’s office but he generously gave it to me a few months ago. I occasionally try writing at restaurants or coffee shops, but if the conversations are too loud, I find it distracting.
That’s really tough! I’m going to choose three I love, but my favourites shift depending on what/who I’m reading! So, for now: Marie Rutkoski, Megan Whalen Turner, and Sarah J. Maas.
I love elemental magic, and I adored the animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender. Plus, I had a dream about a girl with power over fire and a king with an icy heart. So clearly, I had to write a story about them!
I’m a Fireblood. I have lots of feelings, and they often overwhelm me—and a quick temper, though it cools just as quickly. I find myself apologizing to my kids quite a bit, but since I’m Canadian, apologizing comes naturally. ;)
I’m currently writing FIREBLOOD, book 2 in the Frostblood Saga, and after that, I’ll be writing book 3, DARKBLOOD. I also get to write two digital novellas as part of the series! I’m not sure what I’ll write after this series is finished.
I hope readers are entertained. I hope their pulses race, I hope they smile, and I hope their hearts hurt just a bit here and there. Mostly, I hope they find an escape from real life. That’s what I love about books, and I would love to give that to someone else. I also hope that anyone who feels like their emotions run too hot, that they don’t quite fit in, will feel a kindred spirit in Ruby.
